Fisherman's Wharf Fishing Report

Fisherman's Wharf Fishing Report March 24, 2004

By all acounts this past weekends 18hr. trip was a success.

Sea Bass weighing in at anywhere from 2lb. to just shy of 7 pounds could be found in everyone’s box. Although the numbers of fish did not quite reach the expectations of some anglers, the size of the fish more than made up for the lack in quantity. Most fishermen had anywhere from ten to twenty of these jumbo sized Bass.

Heavy ground swells made fishing a challenge for even for the most accomplished anglers. You must remember that fishing in 190 to 200 ft. of water is a daunting task on even the nicest of days. There were also a few Ling and Spiny Dogfish Sharks landed on this trip. Chip Graves of Georgetown De. landed one of the biggest fish. He had what would have been a pool winning Pollack of just under ten pounds.

Capt. H.D. told me that if he could just get a break with the wind and the seas that he could potentially have one of the best trips that any of us has ever seen fishing over these untouched deepwater wrecks off of the Virginia coast.

We only have one more 18 hr. extended journey on the schedule for this spring, this is a makeup trip from the blowout of a couple of weeks ago. There are still several spots available, if you are interested I suggest that you make your reservation as soon as possible. This trip is to depart at 12:30 A.M. Sunday morning March 28th.

Starting this Saturday we will also be running a 12hr. Wreck trip every weekend until the middle of May. These trips will be departing at 5:00 A.M. Saturday mornings and are also reservations only, with limited space available. We will resume our daily schedule this Friday March 26th sailing at 7:00 am for Mackerel. The news on Mackerel is all good with reports of fish being landed both offshore of us as well as down the beach. Water temperature as usual will be the key and it looks as though we stand a real good chance of a nice run of these fish as the water is still cool now and the bulk of them are still down the beach. We are looking foreword to a great 04’ season.
