The madness of March’s weather hasn’t allowed much fishing as of late. We were teased all last week with sure signs of spring and the warm temperatures and long days that accompany this turn of seasons, however as the weekend approached it became painfully obvious that the boats would stay tied to the dock as a coastal low was knocking at our door.
The 18-hour trip for Bass was scrubbed and anyone that wanted Tog was told they would just have to wait. Northeast Winds in excess of 50 knots and sheets of rain hammered our area Friday into Saturday and left us with a lot of big waves and soggy hopes. The wind finally came around to the northwest however it blew almost as hard and brought some of those cold temperatures with it. It may have been ok fishing for Perch in some secluded area but the Bay and Ocean were just not an option.
My last fishing trips were the weekend of the 10th I managed to get out both Saturday and Sunday that weekend for the Tog. Sunday was the better of the two days with fish that would weigh in over 8 to 10 pounds. Neither day was spectacular but Sunday’s trip saw the first limits for 07 and the fish were snapping quite well during the strength of an incoming tide. Once again we needed to fish in depths of 100 plus feet to get any bites and they were still biting “light” for a Tog at any depth or time of year.
Our next 18-hour Bass trip will be this Saturday 3/24 departing at midnight Friday. There are still a few spots open for this limited space trip. Remember you need to make your reservations in advance for any of these special trips. I will continue to run with the regular All-Day trips for Tog “blackfish” until the end of this month on weekends and will be gearing up for Mackerel or whatever we can catch after that. Our daily schedule will resume Friday March 30th. I have confirmed reports of Mack’s down the coast as well as offshore right now and with any luck we will have at least a couple of weeks on them without having to run too far.
If you would like any more information about trips sailing out of the Wharf or you would like to make a reservation please give us a call at (302) 645-TUNA.
Until Next Week Happy Fishing!
